The Das Mahavidyas are the 10 wisdom Goddesses born to achieve success in destroying all negative influences in the lives of the people and the inhabitants of Earth. These represent the tantra pooja and power of Shakti with a combined force of 10 wisdom Goddesses.

The dus mahavidya was said to be originated due to an argument between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Parvati's father Daksha was conducting a Puja in which he did not invite Parvati and Lord Shiva to prove his animosity with Shiva. Shiva was annoyed by the fact that Parvati insisted on attending the Pooja even after multiple warnings from Shiva to her for not going. Finally, when Parvati understood that Shiva will not accompany her to the Pooja and will not let her go as well, she created 10 mahavidyas to cover the 10 directions and tell Lord Shiva that she will be present all around him, even when she is gone, but she really needed to attend her father's function. Lord Shiva was now bound by the force of 10 Goddesses made from the body of his wife and he had no other option than to let Parvati go. This led to the birth of Dasha Mahavidya with each one having their own story and their own significance.

The Das mahavidyas are:

 1. Kali- Known for her extreme fierceness and courage, Kali is the Goddess of anger, courage and strength. She is worshipped before any act of courage or bravery is required. She is also worshipped for black magic and tantra pooja.

2. Tara- Known for her extreme unquenched hunger and self-combusting personality, Tara is the Goddess of maternal feelings and counterfeiting challenges. When Lord Shiva drank the poison of the sea and fell unconscious, she took him in her lap and breastfed Shiva to reduce the effect and heat of poison. This turned her blue from the effect of poison and Lord Shiva was saved. Hence, she is worshipped before a war, fight or any act of bravery along with Kali and is worshipped in case of any mishappening that happens with the war, fight or the act of bravery.

3. Shodashi- Known as the Tripura Sundari, Shodashi is the Goddess of beauty and glamour. She provides pleasure, emotions and strength to control physical, mental and emotional outbursts.

4. Bhuvaneshawari- She is the queen of all the worlds that exist. She rules all the universes and all the worlds in all the universes. She is also called Adi Shakti and is worshipped for wealth, health, money, fortune and prosperity.

5. Bhairavi- She is also known as Chandi. Durga Puran states she slew Chanda and Munda, the two devils who were creating havoc in the lives of the people. Bhairavi is also called so because of her slaying of demon Bhairav, who actually was a saint who was cursed to become a demon, get slain by Bhairavi and then transform out of his cursed state. Bhairavi is worshipped for a successful marriage, a beautiful spouse, and getting rid of bad habits as well as any kinds of physical weakness.

6. Chinnamasta- Also called Prachanda Chandika, she is the Goddess of extreme fearsomeness and fright. She is worshipped when someone needs to permanently get rid of an enemy. She is worshipped in Tantra Poojas and it is believed that if 80% damage is done to the target, 20% damage id=s done to the person aiming harm for the enemy also. She is worshipped to win legal battles, get a strong business or destroy someone else.

7. Dhumavati- She is an old widow who is always hungry to initiate quarrels and start rifts and fights. She is portrayed as someone with unkempt hair, extremely poor and dirty clothes. She is worshipped to get rid of extreme poverty and get rid of extreme body and health weaknesses and diseases.

8. Baglamukhi- Known for her ability to silence the enemy or bad party by her mere presence, Baglamukhi is an expert in keeping the good vibes with the worshipper and paralyzing the enemy to reduce the pain to them while the soul is pulled out of their bodies. Baglamukhi is worshipped for winning all types of cases, battles, competitions and any other competitive fronts.

9. Matangi- She is the Goddess of attraction and influence. She is known for impacting power over the other party to get them on her side. She is worshipped with leftover food and leftover clothes. She is worshipped to get Vashikaran powers, to attract someone towards someone, to gain control over enemies and to gain mastery over arts and designs.

10. Kamala- She is the Goddess of grace and good luck. She is worshipped to get instant wealth, money, growth, success and prosperity at any cost. She is different from Saraswati because Saraswati gives success without any harm and Kamala, who is a form of Saraswati gives instant results with a lot to lose and at any cost whatever that may be.
