Meaning
As we have already seen how Duryodhan had tried his level best to manipulate his teacher Guru Dronacharya and how he had already established the fact that everyone who is siding with the Pandavas is either the enemy of the Kauravas or is the enemy of Guru Dronacharya so if they side together, they will have an even chance of getting through all the scores settling them one after the another and only at the expense of war, thereby saving a lot of time and constant humiliation of ego tussle. Guru Dronacharya, who should have interrupted this chain of thought and exercised control over his student was rather quiet and was actually evaluating his options to join the Kauravas and make sure that he balances the imbalance. He turned a blind eye towards the actual ethics of war he only taught and was nearly ready to jump the queue and be the one to take Duryodhan to the victory stand.
Duryodhan had planned this in the most cautious way possible and he made sure to not lose out on anything important that could make his case strong as well as miss out on all those factors that will make his case weak. This was exactly why Duryodhan was able to convince or rather manipulate Guru Duryodhan into joining the side of the Kauravas thinking that he will be balancing the handicap the Pandavas have given them. Also, he was in the mood for his personal revenge and therefore, he kept the interest of his kingdom at the least while listening to Duryodhan and getting manipulated out of his own will.
Duryodhan also knew that the fire was glowing and the only he had to do was add a little fuel to the same and then only wait for it to be devastating enough when Guru Dronacharya gives him his word to side with the Kauravas. Later, even if he makes some changes or tries to duck out, he can be held against his promise, and things can still be managed and controlled.
This was exactly why Duryodhan made sure that the first set of names he dropped were the enemies of Guru Dronacharya. The second set of names he dropped were the weak links of the Pandavas or the cautions of the Pandava army and now, very smartly he will be talking about the third set of names that will talk about the enemies of the Kaurava army, who will be referred to as the enemies of Guru Dronacharya also as he was convinced with Duryodhan and was in a mood to accept the invitation to the Kaurava camp.
Duryodhan talked about Yudhamanyu and Uttammauja saying that these are the two people who are very powerful and very brave, so they have been appointed from the kingdom of Panchal, the original place of Draupadi. Uttammauja and Yudhamanyu were the brave fighters of the Panchal kingdom and when their leader joined the Pandava army to fight for justice, they too were appointed as the ones to take care of Arjun’s chariot’s wheels. The wheel of a chariot can be very sensitive and can be the turning point of the war on a battlefield because only the people with the highest rank orders get their own chariots so any attack on the chariots makes for a very strong and full-blown, all-out attack. This was why preventing the wheel of the chariot from any damage of the minutest form is important. This was exactly why these two brave soldiers were given the responsibility of guarding the chariot wheel of Arjun. Now, already Duryodhan had established the fact that how Arjun was a huge threat to his entire army and how he introduced one more of his type in the form of Yuyudhan, so anything safeguarding Arjun will also be a threat to the Kauravas.
Duryodhan knew he had established enough grounds to now speak about the common possible enemy, Arjun only. But speaking of him continuously will seem like he is praising him for his greatness and not criticizing him for him being a threat so he took a different route and he rather mentioned Arjun’s son Abhimanyu as Subhadra’s son Abhimanyu. He wanted things to be precise and clear and not too repetitive at the same time. This was exactly why he was talking about the brave Abhimanyu in a manner that he was not actually depicting hate for Arjun, but was depicting hate for Abhimanyu and Subhadra or all at once. We all are aware of the fact that while Subhadra was pregnant with Abhimanyu, Arjun had told her about how to break open the Chakravyuh and all its seven gates to seven levels. He also told that there will be a time when even if Arjun knows how to break open the gate, all eyes will be upon him and he definitely will never be able to reach anywhere near the first gate also. So he needed a brave confidante and he was sure that his unborn son Abhimanyu could hear everything inside the womb of Subhadra and know exactly what to do and how.
Arjun went on to talk about everything he knew and kept making sure that Subhadra was actually listening. This was exactly why Abhimanyu also could listen, grab and understand everything his mother understood and he was able to learn the tactics even before being born. The only issue was that the entire tale was too long and while Arjun had crossed the sixth level and was explaining about the seventh level to Subhadra, she fell asleep and she couldn’t hear the last paragraph, the last verse of the part which would help anyone open the last gate and breach the last level of any Chakravyuh. This was exactly why Abhimanyu also could not hear the tactic to open the last level of the Chakravyuh. But the fact that he knew about the six gates was known only to a few people and all others thought that he actually knew all the seven levels. This was why Duryodhan said that everyone in the Kaurav army, including Guru Dronacharya, has to be sure to create a Chakravyuh in a form that all the Pandavas are away from it and Abhimanyu also is not anywhere near the same to open the gates.
Duryodhan then talked about the five sons of the Pandavas from Draupadi. Prativindhya, the son of Yudhishthir, Sutsom, the son of Bheem, Shrutkarma, the son of Arjun, Shataneek, the son of Nakul and Shrutsen, the son of Sahdev too were very talented, very strong and they also were excelling their own fields to stop any kind of enemy attacks. The fact that they were the sons of the Pandavas made it clear that they had the exact same genes as them and they will definitely have the qualities of their fathers which will be an added advantage on the battlefield. Duryodhan knew this and was partly scared of this as well so he made sure to put this out in the most dignified manner possible, still hoping to keep the fire of revenge and victory glowing in the minds of Guru Dronacharya.
He was so infuriated by the fact that everyone in the Pandava camp was either way too skilled or was way too smart for the entire army to hold up together and there was his own army which was not looking so good in shape and thus, he was feeling insecure and was not sure what should be his accurate response to hold up everything.
Duryodhan tried his level best to poison the mind of Guru Dronacharya with enough of every that could last him a positive response. With each example of a name as a reason to hit the ballpark, there was one reason to be careful as well as each time there was a warning like the other one is too smart, or too careful, or too intelligent, or too skilled, or too brave or too something that could be a threat. This was exactly why he added his part of hatred of getting through the insult via an act of revenge using the war and battle for the kingdom as a shield.
There are enough reasons for Duryodhan to hate his Pandava brothers, but the biggest reason was something really pain striking as it arose from the Pandavas' side.
In Mahabharata, there was a story that said that Pandu had a huge castle built in his kingdom. To add security features to it, he made it look like a puzzle. The land around the castle was an illusion of water and the water around the castle was an illusion of land. So there were a lot of times that if someone didn’t know the way around, they would accidentally trip and fall because they would mistake land for water or water for land. One day, Duryodhan was entering the castle and even if he knew the right path, his mind was preoccupied and he missed the correct turn. He accidentally slipped and fell because he didn’t pay attention to the ground. This was when he heard a laughing sound from behind the pillars above him. He lifted up his head to see Kunti laughing at him, staring at him in the face, and was muttering something. When he tried to listen closely after he got up embarrassed, he heard her say, “Andhe Ko Andha Hi Hota Hai” (A blind will give blind only). Now, this meant that it was a slur upon Duryodhan’s parents because his father Dhritrashtra was vision-impaired since childhood. When he married the daughter of Gandhar Kingdom, Princess Gandhari, she took a vow that she will tie a band on her eyes and she will never see till her husband is able to see anything. This is why all the Kauravas were technically born to both blind parents, one at will while the other at the mercy of nature.
However, this mockery that Kunti did sarcastically at Duryodhan was done in a full courtroom of people and he was not just embarrassed, he was also mocked for his existence and for his parenting. This was a very insulting experience for Duryodhan and he was resolute that he will avenge this whenever the time comes. Some years later, things started falling apart and everything started taking a turn towards animosity between the brothers. There was a lot of bad blood between them and things went worse from bad real quick and real soon. It is also said that the origination of the feeling of hate had started off with this statement only and thus each of us should be really careful while mouthing up anything to anyone.
This was exactly why Duryodhan wanted to take revenge on the Pandavas in the worst way possible. He wanted all the sons of the Pandavas dead and the Pandavas alive to see the damage and regret the rest of their lives forever. This was exactly why he needed someone who knew each of the Pandavas better than anyone else and since Guru Dronacharya was the Guru of all the Pandavas and all the Pandava sons as well as all the Kauravas and all the Kaurava sons, the best-suited person who will know who can do what and what not made up for the perfect man to gain a full-fledged attack. This was exactly why he ran to Guru Dronacharya before his own grandfather, Bhishma Pitamah, to get the one person who can be the ace in the pot.
Conclusion
There are a lot of things a person should not do. Bad-mouthing and irresponsible talking make up for the maximum errors behind the same. The biggest sin a person can do is hurt the corner of the most sensitive part of any person. Speaking something bad might help your entertainment for some time but if someone felt bad about it, what will it do in the future is not in anyone’s control.
Also, hate up to a certain level is good but sometimes the hatred between some people leads to a troubled relationship between everyone related to the two who started everything in the first place. We will meet you with a continuation of something new and interesting tomorrow. Till then, stay blessed, stay happy, and keep worshipping.
With this, we wrap up the Shlok-6, Chapter-1. We'll see you tomorrow with Shlok-7, Chapter-1. Also, if you have missed Shlok-5, Chapter-1, see here.
