There was a race between Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha. The bet was that anyone out of the two who completes the entire round of the world fastest on their pets, wins. Lord Kartikeya had a Peacock, so he went with complete speed for the trip around the globe. But Lord Ganesha had a Mouse. So he knew he will loose if he did not use his brain. So he took 3 rounds around his parents, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The logic was that they gave birth to him, so they are his world. Pleased with this witty solution, Lord Ganesha was crowned as Pratham Pujya Ganesha. To celebrate this victory, and mark the end of the race, Lord Ganesha played the victory cord on a Damru, which was a signal to Lord Kartikeya.
