The Das Mahavidyas are the 10 wisdom Goddesses born to achieve success in destroying all negative influences in the lives of the people and the inhabitants of Earth. These represent the tantra pooja and power of Shakti with a combined force of 10 wisdom Goddesses.
The dus mahavidya was said to be originated due to an argument between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Parvati's father Daksha was conducting a Puja in which he did not invite Parvati and Lord Shiva to prove his animosity with Shiva. Shiva was annoyed by the fact that Parvati insisted on attending the Pooja even after multiple warnings from Shiva to her for not going. Finally, when Parvati understood that Shiva will not accompany her to the Pooja and will not let her go as well, she created 10 mahavidyas to cover the 10 directions and tell Lord Shiva that she will be present all around him, even when she is gone, but she really needed to attend her father's function. Lord Shiva was now bound by the force of 10 Goddesses made from the body of his wife and he had no other option than to let Parvati go. This led to the birth of Dasha Mahavidya with each one having their own story and their own significance.
The Das mahavidyas are:
1. Kali- Known for her extreme fierceness and courage, Kali is the Goddess of anger, courage and strength. She is worshipped before any act of courage or bravery is required. She is also worshipped for black magic and tantra pooja.

This turned her blue from the effect of poison and Lord Shiva was saved.
