English Translation

I wouldn’t want to kill them even if I am getting all the Kingdoms of all the three Loks, Heaven Earth, and Nether world, then why should I kill for just a small piece of land and that too on Earth?

Meaning

In the previous Shlok, we saw how Arjun had explained in detail what each of the relations present in the war meant to him and how they had to be saved from being any kind of victims of war tragedy. Thus, he was sure that he did not want to fight for the betterment of the people fighting and he will not let anyone fight these people as well.

Arjun further states that he knows that in a war, either you fight the opponent or they fight you. There is no room for mercy and thus if you fight the war, either you die or you kill the person who can kill you. So he knew that the people whom he wanted to save were only the ones keen on killing him and thus, if death is the ultimate goal now or later, then he might as well let his people kill him and get what they want rather than him killing them and making himself a party to a crime.

Arjun had finally decided that whatever happens, he wanted to fight for the betterment of his family and loved ones but his loved ones were only against him and whatever he does, no one is going to go back to normal, not now and not after the war. So he didn’t want to fight because the outcome was decided and thus he gave up, surrendered, and decided to call the war a quits, even if it meant that his opponents will kill him at any cost.

Arjun knew that this behavior will further anger his opponents and they will kill him with no mercy in mind he was very ready for dying but he will not kill anyone in this war of right vs wrong because he was done with the consequences of trying to take the right action and then getting messed up because what they decide is not what happens with them and thus, they lose the chance at making any progress in any manner whatsoever.

Arjun said that he didn’t want to commit any more sins than he already had and he did not want to go to hell and face more troubles because he was done fighting and he was at a breaking point from where whatever happens, he wouldn’t care and wouldn’t want to care at all because he had been in trouble ever since and the expectations that everyone had with him never made him capable to try something he felt like so if this time, he was to defy all odds and do what he wants to do, he wouldn’t care about anything else and he will not take the onus of any more sins in his name.

Arjun said that he was so done with this pointless fight that even if someone offered him the entire three worlds and all their luxuries, he didn’t want any of it and trading that for such a small piece of land and the people on it when Lord Shri Krishna himself was with him felt like a useless and unwanted step to take.

Arjun, therefore, said that if he deserved something from his previous actions, be it happiness or sadness, he was ready to take the results of that but anymore give grief to anyone so that the grief of someone else if removed was something he wasn’t happy to be a part of and thus, he had decided to just eave things as is.

He says that he is no God. God has the power to kill the devil and give them a lesson. Neither Arjun is God and not all the people in the Kaurava army are pure devils so if someone can give these people a lesson, it is God and Arjun will not fight against them under any circumstances.

Conclusion

Arjun knew what he was doing and he knew that this will result in his loss, that has never happened but he knew that if he had to take care of his people as the battle leader, this was the best way to accept defeat and let his people live with happiness and be alive to figure out a way to stay happy when in troubles but he will not teach a wrong message of fighting to prove a point every time.
