Mata Kushmanda Pooja: Story, Benefits, Significance, and History

Day 4 of Navratri is reserved for Mata Kushmanda and her Pooja. She is the fourth form of Goddess Durga, while she was on a chase towards Mahishasura. There is a small story of how she became Kushmanda Mata and it is a delight to know. Kushmanda Mata is the Goddess of fierceness and hope. The story underneath will show why so.

Who is Kushmanda Mata and why is Kushmanda Mata worshipped?

Kushmanda means the one who lit the place with the power of lights when everyone was in darkness. It is said that when there was darkness all around and there was a need for a source of light, Lord Surya was selected to reflect the hope, shine, brightness, and peacefulness to create a glowing ray. But Mahishsura had dethroned all the powerful Gods and Goddesses of all the kingdoms and thus Lord Surya was not able to give light to any of the inhabitants of Earth. This was when everyone on Earth was perplexed and they needed help from their Gods for prevention against Mahishsura and also as a source of living. All the crops were dying. All the animals were dying due to the non-availability of fodder. All the people were facing a tough time due to the non-availability of light. Then Goddess Kushmanda was the one who came to rescue. She was the only form of Durga, who was allowed entry into the Surya Palace. She went to borrow light with herself and she came out of Surya Palace with light in her body. She smiled a weak, small, tiny, little smile and the entire world lit up with light and happiness. Thus, Goddess Kushmanda is the Goddess of power and shine. Light is the power of hope and positivity, and Goddess Kushmanda had made all the powers of the world to meet the divinity of light. She provides for responsibility and celebration. Her smile adds a new formation and brightness to everything her gaze falls upon. The energy emitted out of her aura makes everyone feel special and highly motivated for a new beginning every time. She is called Kushmanda because she killed a kurshm when Mahishasura took the form of one and fled the moment she was about to catch him. In one such try to nab him, an innocent Kurshm was killed and hence, she gave him Salvation. She was thus called the one to give moksha to Kurshm, hence, Kushmanda.

Anyone who worships her is sure to receive the enlightening knowledge and power to get the best in life and never lose out on anything important due to anything.
