English Translation
When the war was in full swing and everyone was ready to start using equipment and fighting, Arjun picked up his Gaandeev (Bow and arrow) to fight.
Meaning
In the previous Shlok, we saw how the entire Pandava army started beating their own drums, shells, and conches and how it vibrated the entire sky and Earth, and water together. It was enough to make the huge Kaurava army, almost double the Pandava army, shiver with fear and understand that since they were supporting the wrong, they are to get the result of the same. It is no more about power and authority, rather it is more about truth, ethics, and honesty.
When the Kauravas had decided they wanted war, they knew they were going right and then suddenly, they had seen the power of the even so small force of the Pandava army and they realized that even if they tried everything, they will be short of something and thus, Duryodhan ran to Guru Dronacharya and get his help and then to Bheeshma Pitamah also to get his help. Although, Sanjaya, who is narrating everything as it is happening in real-time to Dhritrashtra, said that when Arjun had a chance to show his emotions for the war confirmation, his hand automatically flung to his side where he had always kept his archery kit, his bow and arrow, his Gaandiv. He picked up the Gaandiv and was ready to fight from day one.
So, when the Kauravas were scared of the roar of the Pandavas' instruments, they were thinking of what to do, and Arjun, as usual, as a brave and as fierce fighter as he was, picked up his bow and arrow, Gaandiv and was ready to fight again. So, although the conch shell roar of Bheeshma Pitamah was to announce his alliance with the Kauravas, the Kauravas didn’t want to waste time and let Pandavas think that this was an impulse decision and not give them time to get ready, the Pandavas were more than ready and they were only waiting for the opportunity to show their skills and prove their point.
Arjun was a very fierce fighter and he was highly blessed by various mystical powers as well. When Arjun was in the woods on exile with his brothers and wife, Draupadi, was worshipping from her small hut. She saw that there was a very beautiful lotus flower in front of her that had come with the wind. She picked up the flower and she saw that the lotus flower had a hundred petals in it. She was so impressed with that flower that she requested Bheem, the third Pandava son to get her more such flowers from the woods because she wanted to worship.
Bheem knew it was a very rare lotus flower so it will be available in the deep and dark areas of the jungle only but to respect his wife, he went that distance. While in the woods, he encountered a saint who was dressed in the most beautiful and innovative manner. He was a monkey but a saint. Bheem was a very talkative person and he instantly connected, so he talked to the saint.
He got to know that this saint was no one other than Lord Hanuman, who was waiting for his Shree Ram after he had gone after a huge lifetime in Ayodhya and his sons Luv and Kush were handling everything. Bheem requested him to give him three wishes as blessings and Lord Hanuman had to agree.
The first wish was to gather a lot of such rare flowers so that the Pooja of Draupadi is completed. The second wish was to bless the Pandavas in their times of need. Lord Hanuman granted both wishes and added to it that whenever Bheem or the Pandavas are in trouble due to anything, and Bheem makes a roar for the victory of himself and his people, Lord Hanuman will add all his powers to the same roar and make that roar invincible and as fierce as no one else can imagine.
Also, Lord Hanuman was very happy with Bheem so he said that he will also sit at the top of the chariot of Arjun in his chariot flag so as to support and handle the problems with ease. There were two reasons to make this commitment for Arjun. One, Arjun was a very fierce fighter and Lord Hanuman too was an undefeated and fierce fighter. Two, Lord Krishna was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and Lord Ram was also an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Also, Lord Krishna was the charioteer of Arjun so if Lord Hanuman sat at the flag of the chariot of Arjun, then he will be extremely close to his Lord Ram and thus, Lord Hanuman offered this deal to Bheema to which he readily agreed.
This is why, when Sanajya had to say to Dhritrashtra that Arjun picked up his Gaandeev again dn is now talking to Shri Krishna, he said that the Kapidhwaj has picked up the Gaandeev. Kapi means monkey and Dhwaj means flag.
Conclusion
The one who is the wrongdoer will always have the fear of failure but the right-doer will never have the same because the right-doer will be brave and he will know that he is fighting for the correct thing, which will win in the end. Although the one who is wrong will always have the fear as they will know that whatever it is, the right will win and the wrong will never prevail.
