For everyone for whom I wanted to fight and make the place a better one to live, they are standing here leaving everything they loved behind them.

Meaning

In the previous Shlok, we saw how Arjun said that he wanted to win this war to make sure that any kind of injustice is removed forever but his killing his people to get success is again an injustice so injustice can never remove injustice and thus, he was no more interested in doing anything such.

Arjun was sure that he wanted to win the war for his people. Those who have been wronged should get their revenge. Those who have wronged should get their lesson. Everyone should then be at peace and happiness.

But it was not just the Kauravas who were Arjun’s family and he was fighting him. It was also the people supporting the Pandavas who were the family of the Pandavas and Arjun. So, he wanted to win the war for the people who had renounced everything to fight. Now, if they are only not there to fight, to have the final result, final victory, then no one else deserves it anymore and these are the people who have left everything to be with the right side and Arjun was playing and vetting upon their lives for winning something by being not completely right, so this was unjust to these people and thus, Arjun was not happy to be on the wrong side and wronging the very people he was there to protect.

Arjun felt as if he was giving his people something that they didn’t want and he was not sure if his people were fighting his people and everyone was to kill the other and no one will get the final savings apart from the Pandavas, why will he only fight in the first place?

He felt that those who deserve to be happy with what they have, are fighting the war and there is no guarantee that they will be alive out of that war. So there was no use of the war and thus, Arjun’s point of not escalating things is again proven.

Arjun wanted to keep his full family happy and fight injustice. He did not want to fight his family and kill some of his family to give happiness to some of them while leaving the others reeking of the pain of losing their members. This was no worse than what the Kauravas did. They took away the kingdom from the Pandavas and made them feel like outsiders. If the Pandavas take away the lives of the family members and the remaining ones will be forced to try to enjoy the happiness of what they have, but they will never be able to be happy in what they have because they will always miss those who will no more be with them to celebrate this happiness.

Everyone in the war is sitting in the war after they have left everything they had. Now when these people are getting a chance to prove themselves, they will have to live with the guilt of killing their people, it's not just Arjun, it will be his people too and he cannot take it at any cost because then if that happens, Arjun is no less than a devil forming his people to take a decision for his benefit and repent it later for their losses at his cost.

Arjun knew that everyone who was standing to fight had no greed in their lives or gaining wealth. But at the end of the war, everyone wanted something for the efforts and sacrifices they have put in and if that reward is grief, then it will depend on Arjun to remove that but since the loss will be irrecoverable, it is impossible for anyone to compensate that and thus, Arjun didn’t gather any motivation to fight and let these people go through that kind of hell.

Conclusion

Arjun was very practical because he knew that whatever happens will make more than a one-sided impact. The only issue he had was that if this war was anything else than a family feud, he would not have thought as much as he had to now because he had fought all the wars for his family and this was the first time he was fighting a war against his family with his family. This was a very tricky situation to be in and he was sure that whatever he does, nothing will reduce or heal the wounds of the family of the deceased because these losses are irrecoverable thus, Arjun didn’t want to live with such a burden upon his shoulders of giving grief to his family for whose happiness he was ready to fight.
