Know that this, on which all the world has been strung, is indestructible. No one can bring out the destruction of this imperishable being.

Meaning

In the previous Shlok, we saw how Shri Krishna said that the world does not come to an end with some people and it will not come to an end with some perceptions. This Shloka is an extension of the previous Shloka.

Shri Krishna says to Arjun that try to understand the immortal and mortal first. He means to say that there is a lot that can be seen around the universe. Everything looks complete and sufficient in itself. So that is the reality. What exists is natural. What seems to exist might not be as natural as it looks.

It does not mean that what is near and in sight is immortal and what seems to be near or is little away from you is mortal. It means that anything that is preliminary to you as it is and for what it is, that is the reality and everything else is either unreal and mortal or is immortal but not for you or your living.

The way there is gold in golden ornaments, clay in earthenware, and iron in ironware, there is an essence of nature in the entire life cycle of a person and that cannot be avoided. Similarly, the truth of existence and the usefulness of that existence cannot be denied at any cost.

Yet, if there is anything that has to be over for something else to be more powerful, then that will happen, and no one can stop this at any cost. Basically in the entire thing. Shri Krishna was telling Arjun that what was there to be will be there and what has to be gotten rid of will never be there anymore. On an overall basis, if something has a limited life, whatever anyone does, the life of that person still will be limited and it is not proportionate to any external nuances. So if Arjun has decided that he will not fight and he will not kill his opponents in the fight, they have already lived the age decided for them and they will die when it is written for them. Arjun not killing them doesn’t mean they will not die. Arjun not fighting the war doesn’t mean the war wouldn’t happen. Arjun laying down to offer his death as an exchange for so many lives will not function and there will be people who will eat up this opportunity to kill Arjun but never to stop the war even if the results had been decided well in advance.

Conclusion

The time you waste in repenting your losses or the probable losses is actually the time you should spend in finding out the best medium of making these losses minimized or gaining profits way more than the probable losses so that even if there is a loss, there is at least suitable compensation to fulfill the chance of that loss. What is existing now might not have been earlier and might not live later. Also, what is existing now might have been there for ages and will be there for ages. There is no reason to repent over anything lost or be extremely excited with anything gained because each time you waste time, it is not coming back, it will keep passing and once the chance is over, even if you don’t do something, it is going to happen. Maybe at the hands of someone else and the credit will go to them while you remain a failure. So, if in case there is anything that motivates you to be the torchbearer of right and righteousness, then learn to hoist it for yourself first and then anytime else for anyone else.
