Hindi Translation

Par Hey Janardan, kul kaa naash karne se hone waale paap ko theek thaak samajhne wale humlog is paap se khud ko bachaane ki koshish kyun na kare?

English Translation

But O Lord, just tell me, knowing well that what sin it brings to you if you kill your own, why should we, who understand a little about these things, not try to save ourselves from the bad omen?

Meaning

In the previous Shlok, we saw how greed clouds the judgment of right and wrong and how Duryodhan’s judgment was also errored because he wanted more of everything and he did not focus on what he was losing while trying to gain a little.

Arjun on the other hand was aware that this war was a massacre awaiting to happen at any moment and thus, he just wanted to avoid this at any cost, and if not, then he wanted to wait till it engulfs him also but he would not be a party to sin at any cost.

In this Shlok, Arjun tells Shri Krishna that he is not interested in killing the Kauravas because he knew they were his family and that he also loved them a little also, killing them would be a crime and sin and he was not in the right position to do so and thus, he would want to save himself from all this debacle rather than being a part of it.

Arjun was a very foresighted person. He knew that he had a minimalist approach due to his style of living and his proficiency. He was a warrior and a warrior who needs to fight every battle with luggage will never win. So Arjun was a person with the bare minimum needs and he wanted to remain such. Yudhishthir was the eldest son but he was more of an ethical person so even if he didn’t have anything he wouldn’t want that. Bheem was more of a protector so he would keep safe whatever they had but he would never lose his cool upon what they didn’t have. Nakul was a strategizer and he could implement anything within any resource he had so he was never short of small master tricks and thus, he never felt like he needed more of anything. Sahdev was a charmer and there was nothing that Sahdev couldn’t get done using his charm and pleasant attitude. People felt positive while helping Sahdev and thus, the Pandavas were very minimalist and they were okay living in little for the rest of their lives.

Arjun knew how they wanted the Hastinapur kingdom to expand and make a huge name for themselves. In that, they went after greed and they bet and lost everything to the Kuravas. Very slowly they had learned to live with nothing and yet be happy with everything and now, they were not interested in going down that path again.

So Arjun was happy not to have anything. He hated how it was unfair that he was ethical and yet suffering and Duryodhan was unethical and yet he was happy but his foresightedness told him that Pandavas had small yet forever happiness and satisfaction as opposed to the monetary pleasures of the Kauravas.

Hence, Arjun decided that he is fine with whatever was the situation, and even if there had to be a war, it can find its way but Arjun will not fight or kill anyone.

Conclusion

Your upbringing makes all the difference because the moment you step into the real world, there are a variety of people awaiting your loss to gain something, and in that, finding your niche where you are the best and deciding where to stay for the course of the life in very important and crucial because all this is decided through your upbringing and the atmosphere you grow up in and you see around yourself. Arjun could see that his entire family had suffered and to avenge that, there will be more suffering for his family only thus, he decided that he was done with this game of giving suffering to one another and avenging your suffering to give and get more suffering and thus, he will take a foot back to stop the entire destruction.
