These characterless children then destroy everything that remains in the name of family and legacy and thus, the forefathers who were happy in heaven will cease to be so because they too will not get the required greetings and attention.
Meaning
In the previous Shlok, we saw how Arjun stated that when Adharma spreads, it starts a chain reaction of people losing their minds. When people lose their minds, they lose their behavior. With the loss of behavior, there is character loss and with a character loss, there are illicit activities and behaviors that take place which is why the offspring born are also having the corrupted birth and spoiled blood due to the upbringing and surrounding.
Arjun was trying to explain how the non-maintenance of the distance between the mandatory actions makes the people blind and they take steps that they should not take.
In this Shlok, Arjun specifies that with spoiled blood and bad attitude, how when the kids grow, they grow up to become really bad and they forget to respect their elders. When they do not respect their seniors, juniors, and elders, they also do not pay homage to the dead and thus, they make the souls of the demised also wither in pain.
In the Hindu religion, it is believed that when the person dies, the soul of the person leaves the body and travels to the Pitra Lok, the place of the dead where souls reside. These souls, if they are satisfied, will be at ease and peace but if the dead have died due to any unfortunate turn of events and there is something left to finish before they rest in peace, they keep roaming around in pain and agony and sometimes even anger and they need proper satisfaction so that they are able to get themselves at ease.
As per tradition, for the demised souls to stay in peace, every year for 15 days, these souls come to Earth to meet their successors and greet them, bless them, and also get a lot of things from them as offerings which will ensure that they are at ease, happiness, and satisfaction when they are no more around their loved ones in a living format. Basically, these souls are called Pitras.
In Hindu mythology, worshipping a Pitra is bigger than anything and whatever happens, no one should make their ancestors sad or unhappy because, at every step of the way, these ancestors make the people the way they are. If the ancestors are happy, they bless the living with unlimited happiness and fortune and if the ancestors are sad they will never let the living also be happy because if they are unhappy after death, the young blood has gone astray and they need to be punished and brought on the right path.
So, if the young offspring are polluted since birth, they will never follow culture and tradition, so they will never be able to live happily and stay successful. As a result, these people will not care about their ancestors and will not do any kind of worship, donations, charity, and any other thing to help the needy. The ancestors, who come in with expectations as needy will also never get the best of the treatments due to which they will also never be able to stay happy and full in the Pitra Lok.
So, these corrupt offspring will go on to pollute their generations and then the generation after them and then the generation after them, and one day, when they die, their souls will not get peace and solace and they will be forever hanging in anticipation of getting Salvation.
All this will be triggered only when there is rampant Adharma and that will happen if people fight and kill their loved ones and friends and families and betray the moral and ethical code of conduct and rules and regulations set for ideal living and establishing a completely governed system.
Thus, Arjun was sure that this was the worst idea to engage in the battle and if the battle cannot be stopped now, he was sure that he will not fight it and not be a party to any further sins than he had already committed or has had suffered the results for already.
Conclusion
It is very important as well as difficult to trace the importance of respect and stature in any form to provide to the people who are willing to make a difference because when the people are themselves corrupted, there will be no one who will understand the pain of anyone else and when they will, it will be too late because then they will be in pain and then they will never be treated like a human being, normally. This will definitely lead to devastation, which normally is the end of the textbook theory of the butterfly effect. It’s crazy how things unfold in the most unexpected manners and thus, the people make the worst out of the smallest and most irrelevant stupid actions.
That’s it in Shlok-42, Chapter-1 of Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta. Will see you again tomorrow with Shlok-43, Chapter-1. Till then, read on till Shlok-40, Chapter-1, and stay blessed.
