Hey Krishna, main apne samne bure logon ko dekh raha hun lekin unpar vijay paane ke liye apne khud ke parivaar ka naash hone me koi laabh nahi dikh raha hai.

English Translation

I am seeing bad people in front of me but I am not able to see the benefit in getting my own people and my own family killed for those people to be at justice.

Meaning

In the previous Shlok, we saw how Arjun’s body was giving up on him and he was sure that he wouldn’t be able to stand for another moment on the battlefield imagining the massacre that would happen at the end of the war. So he was trying to say to Shri Krishna that he just wanted justice for himself but if this is the way to it, he doesn’t feel like it and he wasn’t sure he would want that to happen.

Arjun was requesting Shri Krishna to make the most of the opportunity while the war had yet not begun and the first strike was not made so that anyhow things can be back to normal or they can e tried to be brought back to normal. Arjun asked Shri Krishna if he was not seeing anything good at the end of the war and thus, he was confused that when the outcome is not positive and there was no way it could be positive as well, then there has to be something that really motivates a person and make them ready to keep fighting and that some motivation was not available anywhere in any format because everything that was happening in the present and everything that was to happen in the future looked only devastating.

It is also said that if anything bad happens before starting anything, try not to do that work then and fix it or change the way. The Pandavas had seen some signs of bad luck when they were waiting and preparing for the war.

Situations like Arjun going numb on the battlefield that has never ever happened before even in Arjun’s sleep, and his mouth feeling dry, his body and mind not working were signs of something bad happening and there was nothing worse than a situation of war. So Arjun was feeling that all these were signs that the war should not be taken place.

But then Arjun realise that his statement only made small sense because this was more of his fear and scaredness and not a sign of nature so he brought in certain signs of natural happenings that happened before the war cry had started.

Events like excessive heat waves and scorching heat rays falling from Sun to Earth making everyone uncomfortable at the wrong time was also a sign that nature was not happy with the upcoming war.

Apart from that, just after the announcement of war, there was an unexpected eclipse mode in which the entire world went into a mode of darkness and everything became impure and had to be purified. No one had estimated that and it was also a sign of negativity and something wrong and bad. So Arjun put it as an argument saying that if the beginning is only bad, the end will be devastating.

Apart from that, the signs like unwanted earthquakes, the birds and cattle shouting at the top of their voices, the accidental removal of the black spot upon the moon for a day to make it as bright as possible, excessive rainfall making all the crips go waste, and people losing their calm uselessly to be ready for war were all uncoordinated signs showing how nature and universe were also angry with the announcement of war and they did not want anything sich to take place at all.

Thus Arjun was adamant to make a good argument as to why he felt that war was useless and there was no chance where they had to fight. Arjun was sure that war was the solution but he was also sure that he didn’t want to fight and he didn’t want his people to fight his people.

Arjun further said that he had always followed the policy of loving your own people and here, he was forced to kill them only. He felt this was wrong and bad and this was something that would definitely make him a murderer and he will go to hell for killing his own people as this too was Adharm and anyone who does this lands in hell.

Arjun was sure that nature was giving indications that he need not be fighting the war. Also, the killer of their own family is the one who gets sin on their back and they go to hell and Arjun was not ready to do this to himself and his people as well. Thus, he did not want to let the war start.

Arjun tried to put forward the argument that even if he tried his best, he was not able to find out one single reason why he should fight or let people fight apart from the fact that people were wrong with him and he did not want revenge to be this devastating so he was developing a soft corner for his enemies even if he was angry upon them.

Conclusion

It is generally not what you want but what should be. Arjun wanted to have justice for everything he and his family had endured. He also wanted justice for everything Kauravas had done for the victims but still, he was sure that there was only one thing that could facilitate this and it was peace call after the war call. Arjun wanted to put forward an argument saying that he was sure he wasn’t the person who would do what the Kuravas did and that he will not kill his own people when they were the ones who tried to kill him and his family multiple times. Thus, being a man of character was also not enough because he didn’t have the courage to take a stand for the bad done to him and his people by his people only. Will he be able to cope with this? Let’s see.

That’s it in Shlok-31, Chapter-1 of Srimad Bhagwat Geeta. We will see you tomorrow with Shlok-32, Chapter-1. Till then, catch up till Shlok-33, Chapter-1 here. Have a great day.
