Hindi Translation
Main Samajhta hoon ki lobh ke kaaran jinka vivek or vichaar lupt ho gaya hai, aise Duryodhan aadi aapne kul ka naash hone se lagne wale dosh ko or apne mitron ke saath hone wale anyaay ko nahin dekh pa rahe hain.
English Translation
I understand that Duryodhan and the army are not able to see the sin they will be a party to by killing their own people and doing injustice to their friends because they are under the influence of greed.
Meaning
In the previous Shlok, we saw how Arjun was sure he wasn’t getting any happiness in return for killing the Kauravas and the relatives of Dhritrashtra, so he wasn’t willing to take any action. He was debating how his judgment of the situation was apt and he did not need to pull off any sin to make sure justice is served right.
In this Shlok, Arjun is trying to say that he knows he doesn’t want to commit a sin because he is a very good person at heart and thus understands the value of justice and Dharma. He says that he also knows that the Kauravas are under the influence of greed and violence and anger and they are not yet sure that they are not showcasing a strength but adapting a sin under their names.
But Arjun is not that type. He is the follower in his elder brother Yudhishthir’s footsteps because he knows everything and he follows ethics only. Arjun says that he is not interested in this war because this war is a never-ending option.
Arjun remembered that he had learned in his Gurukul about decision-making. He had learned that the feeling of getting more and increasing the aspiration to another higher target and then another and then another and on and on without waiting to digits whatever is in the hands is called greed. Duryodhan wanted to get the maximum area under his capital and he wanted to keep expanding until he is the only king remaining n Earth. He was under the influence of greed.
This was why he was losing his brain to think properly and logically. He was greedy for money, property, capital, praise, power, position, authority and everything else came alongside the same. This was clouding his judgment of the situation that the people who were to give all this to him will be dead to do so and thus, he will have all the property, money, land, and other materialistic things but the power, command, control, authority position he needs up his sleeve will be duly lost because his people will be dead and there will be no one who will praise them over this poor habit.
Arjun knew that whatever happiness you receive, you will have to handle sadness for double that amount because it is easy to forget everything good you have but anything bad you have to handle is more bitter than anything else.
Whenever there is a fight in the family, there is a loss of time, money, and patience, and with loss of time and money and patience, people lose manners and then they lose relationships.
An example of this is Guru Dronacharya and Raja Drupad. These two were best friends since childhood and one day when Kind Drupad got crowned as a king, he insulted Guru Dron and threw him away from his capital area calling him a mere average person and referring to himself as the great king and the successor of the kingdom he owned.
This insult and broken friendship made Dron very hurt and he started hating King Drupad. Then Dron became an Acharya, and he started training the best of the minds and when he found Arjun, he made Arjun to attack King Drupad and hurt him equally.
Being the brave fighter that he was, Arjun won the battle and he took away half the kingdom of King Druad from under his name. He knew that this will lead to trouble one day and it did when Drupad got to know that Dron was beyond this and the war was about to start, Drupad made sure to join Arjun and ruin Dron even further. Drupad disliked Arjun, but he hated Dron more, and thus, he joined the Pandavas, not because he liked Arjun, but because he hated Dron.
Drupad’s son Dhrishtadhyumna was thus determined to kill Dron and take revenge on his father but he couldn’t muster that courage and now, he was also with the Pandavas to kill Dron and the Kauravas. Drupad’s second child was Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas, and thus, she was won as present when Arjun defeated Drupad and thus, she became the Pandava wife.
So Arjun knew how hate could lead to spiled relationships and he did not want to add more fuel to the blazing fire. Hence, he decided to forfeit the battle.
Conclusion
The way you think and perform under pressure is the real test of your character in the most difficult situations. Arjun wanted to make everything happy at the cost of his happiness and Duryodhan just wanted his happiness at the cost of anyone’s happiness and anyone’s loss. This was where the upbringing of your child matters the most because the moment your child thinks only about themselves, they are always selfish and there is nothing that can stop them from being any more till they learn a lesson from the person they value the most.
