English Translation
Immediately after, a lot of conches, kettledrums, cymbals, big drums, horns, and other equipment started making noise. It was a tumultuous noise.
Meaning
In the previous Shlok, we saw how Bheeshma Pitamah blew the conch shell to announce his alliance with the Kauravas when Duryodhan felt distressed and was feeling lost at the ignorance of Guru Dron. Bheeshma Pitamah had seen the defeat arise in Duryodhan’s mind and thus, he could not help but be with the Kauravas just to boost the morale.
The entire Kaurava army knew that this was the exact time when they had to use this opportunity and play their best cards. So, the moment Bheeshma’s conch shell went silent after a long and loud roar, the Kaurava army started playing their war instruments like conch shells, drums, phones, harps, and all other musical instruments that could depict the start of the war.
Bheeshma Pitamah was treating his conch shell only as a sign of happy affiliation with the Karavas but he knew how it will be perceived and even then, he had no issues. He wanted to keep his grandson happy and he knew this will not upset the Pandavas also because they are very practical in their approach and they will understand the need for this move t side with the Kauravas.
Also, the Kauravas were still preparing for the war whereas the Pandavas were already ready and they were only waiting for the blessings of the elderlies to start with and there could not be a better blessing than Bheeshma Pitamah’s conch shell roaring.
The Kauravas were not very sure why this sudden move was done because they didn’t know if Bheeshma played the Shankh signaling his decision to side with them or because he was announcing the war. But they took it as the war go ahead and they were okay with taking things to a new step they also blew their conch shells and other equipment to show their happiness to start the war.
The entire ecosystem echoed with the sounds of the mixed conch shells, drums, and beats and everyone basked in the happiness of the new chapter after a long wait so everyone showed their excitement, nervousness, and happiness in the ways they all played their drums.
Conclusion
At the start of this chapter, Dhritrashtra, the father of the Kauravas was baffled and he had been to Sanjaya, the one person blessed with Divyachakshu, the power and vision to see anything from anywhere. He was asked what to do when the Kauravas and the sons of Pandavas were ready to fight and why was this happening. Sanajya was telling all this to Dhritrashtra and was telling him how fierce the situation was and what all was happening and what was going to happen. So, when people took things differently and everyone was ready to fight, Sanjaya was telling Dhritrashtra how he also could not do anything and they only have to see what will happen next because no one cared to know what the elders thought now. Everyone had made errors and mistakes and the repercussions were way too high to take a step back.
So, when Bheeshma Pitamah blew his Shankha and everyone perceived it as the start of the war, they were more than happy and Sanajaya told Dhritrashtra to only keep his calm and make sure that whenever possible, they are able to give pieces of information and advice to their people so that the destruction, that was to happen anyways, will be less or reduced in the best way possible.
