5 Ways To Maintain A Work Life Balance

We all know that all work and no personal life make a person successful, but it is also monotonous. The reason is simple. When you work too hard or you desire to work hard then you will have to decide that either you let your work suffer or you let your personal life or family life suffer.


But there are times when these two need to go hand in hand and there can be no backdrops to this. How will that be managed?

1. Schedule

Most people are scattered or aimless in life because they don’t have a proper schedule. When you want to achieve a lot in life and a lot of work is pilled up, chances are that you will find everything way too much intimidating and it will become difficult for you to concentrate or focus. In such scenarios, you try to take up on task and even before you finish, your anxiety to focus on something else makes you leave one thing and start another. You find yourself constantly busy at the end of the day, yet nothing concrete is achieved.


This is why scheduling is important. Set a schedule. Decide what you want to do and what you have to do. There is a difference in the two. What you want to do are the tasks that are for your personal growth and satisfaction and what you have to do are your necessary actions that cannot be ignored.


When you have it figured out, start with one task and finish it with undivided attention, and then go on with the next one. By the end of the day, you will have more than you could have ever achieved otherwise and maybe you will still have loads of time left.


When you decide the perfect time for work then you can devise the time for yourself and your family also. This way, you don’t have to juggle between everything and also struggle with everything.



2. Priority

Know what you have to do first and what can be done last. When you are setting the tasks of What you have to do and What you want to do, you should also numerically arrange the order. If there is something very very important, then that is number one and if there is something that can be done last, then that will be number last.


Understand that although there are only 24 hours, everyone else also has 24 hours only and there are people who can manage a lot of different things together because they know what is important and what is not.


So once you have decided which thing can be replaced with which one and understood the game of priority, you will be able to give justice to the important work aspect as well as the important family aspect and important self aspect. 


This way, if you have to manage something extraordinary, you will not panic because you know the art of managing the seemingly impossible or seemingly difficult.



3. Equal Respect

Equal respect is very important for the people around you. Similarly, equal respect for your personal life and professional life is very important. If you are having a bad day at work, then it does not mean that you have to take it out on yourself or your family. You are running a different race in your professional life than your family. Your family is not your punching bag. You also are not your punching bag. So if you had a bad day at work, either manage the bad to good or take help from your family or loved ones to convert the bad into good but do not take them for granted.


Similarly, if there is an issue at home or with you, you are not entitled to make your work suffer due to this. You cannot tell your team or colleagues or the world that because you are suffering in one place, you will let your other commitments also suffer. You cannot be the reason for anyone else’s sorrow because then, they will be someone else’s sorrow and this will be a cycle that will go on continuously.


So if there is something wrong at one place, try balancing it with the other but not being a reason for the other one’s sorrow as well. It is completely okay to make mistakes but to know what not to do and yet do it because you couldn’t control yourself is the crime to avoid.



4. Learn to Compensate

This is very important. Suppose in case someday you have to attend an important work commitment and thus you have to overlook the family time or personal time. In that case, you have to make sure that you compensate the family time or personal time with equal effect. If there is an emergency and you have to leave early, make sure you find a way to manage the family when you can without fail. This way, your brain knows that if there is an excess of one and a deficit of another, the accounts have been settled and it will release happy hormones to keep you happy and cheerful.


Also, if sometimes you need emergency family time or personal time due to some unavoidable circumstances, then try to regain your stance and then give more commitment to work. Do not let any one thing suffer due to complete absence from it for presence in someplace else. This way, you will know how to manage the sea-saw of life and family and work without failing at anything.


Compensation however does not mean leaving something important to do something else also important. It just means that adjusting both is important so that none is left incomplete and both can compromise a little once in a while in understanding the gravity of the situation.


If there is something that might make you believe that there will be complete absence on your part from that scene due to the other, make sure to come back with complete presence and make up for the potential losses or harm that might have happened to either minimize the loss or at least curb the repercussion of that loss.

An excuse that you don’t have time will only be an excuse. So excuse yourself from excuses and get on with life.


5. Compromise on expectations

In life, a lot of times, people hold expectations. But when reality is met with expectations, there is sadness and pain. You need to compromise on your demands and expectations from things you have no idea about or full idea about.


Compromise doesn’t mean leaving it at all and it also doesn’t mean sticking to it and not learning. Compromise means that you understand that everything that you desire you think you want or you feel cannot be exactly as is. Sometimes it can be overwhelming due to more than the expectations and sometimes, it can be underwhelming due to dropped expectations.

A person should be aware that if they are to leave one thing for the other, then there can be a chance wherein the desired might not be the actual and if there is anything that has to see the difference, then the person needs to understand and adapt and adjust with the same.
